Reishi
(Ganoderma lucidum)

Reishi, or ‘lingzhi’, is a legendary mushroom in Eastern medicine, called the ‘mushroom of spiritual power’ or ‘mushroom of immortality’. It has a shiny red-brown cap and often grows on old trees in forests. Reishi is considered one of the most powerful mushrooms for maintaining overall health and longevity, having been used in East Asia for over two millennia.

The benefits of reishi mushrooms lie in their adaptogenic properties, which help the body withstand stress and fatigue. It supports the immune system, helps to normalize blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and has a calming effect that helps with insomnia and anxiety. Its anti-inflammatory properties are also used to alleviate the symptoms of chronic diseases. Reishi is safe for long-term use as it is not addictive, has no toxic properties, and supports the body's overall resistance to physical and emotional stress.
The composition of reishi includes polysaccharides, triterpenoids, phytosterols, and antioxidants. Polysaccharides increase the activity of the immune system, triterpenes have anti-inflammatory properties, and phytosterols help regulate cholesterol levels. Organic acids and enzymes in reishi also help to improve metabolism and cleanse the body of toxins. B vitamins, amino acids, and minerals also make reishi a rich source of nutrients.

Interesting fact: modern research has shown that reishi can help increase life expectancy by activating specific genes responsible for longevity. This effect makes the mushroom extremely interesting for scientists studying the aging process and ways to slow it down.
